ST. MICHAELS ROAD REGENERATION, LONGFORD

Cluid Housing Association

This was a project where building the houses was only considered one part of the regeneration, with the social aspect of the creation of a sustainable community vision, and the importance of encouraging long term community involvement being central to improving the stability of the area.

The existing character of St Michael’s road was strongly defined by its stone fronted houses, so keeping a strong link with the original road and the existing context provided for a natural evolution of the historical streetscape. At the heart of the regeneration was a new ‘cross roads’ – creating a strong link between adjacent open spaces and reconnecting the area to the surrounding communities.

The completed regeneration at St Michaels provides a mix of houses and apartments, both regenerated and new, with a total of 37 units in varying size.
